Chances are, planning a wedding isn’t something you do regularly – unlike us! For those of you who are doing this the first time around, and haven’t spent your teen years thumbing through wedding magazines, figuring out all of the wedding-related lingo can be a little bit like learning a foreign language. If that’s the case, let us help you out! Today, we’re giving you a rundown on who’s who in your bridal party.

Bridesmaids

The bride’s entourage! These are the brides closest friends and family members. Some brides chose to have only one (or even none), but some have as many as 8 or 10! They act as a support team for the bride, and help plan things like the bachelorette party or bridal shower. Often bridesmaids get the pleasure of going wedding dress shopping with the bride. When there is maid of honor, she usually acts as a leader of the bridesmaids, coordinating them and getting them to help with different things as needed.

Maid of Honor

The maid of honor is the right-hand-(wo)man to the bride during the wedding planning process, and on the wedding day. She is usually responsible for helping with wedding planning, organizing a bridal shower and/or bachelorette, and keeping the bridesmaids in the loop. During the wedding ceremony, the maid of honor is often the one to sign the marriage license as a witness, adjust the bride’s train, and hold her bouquet.

Groomsmen

This is the posse of helpers for the groom – often their main task pre-wedding is to plan and pay for the bachelor party! They’ll need to get fitted for tuxes or suits, and show up on time on the big day. We do have a soft spot for groomsmen – they usually are some of the most entertaining people on the dance floor!
