Knox Vegas DJs has 10 core values that we uphold in all of our work. You can read the full list here, but today we’re talking about one in particular – “Don’t Settle For Status Quo”.
What is status quo, anyway?
‘Status quo’ refers to the existing state of affairs. It’s ‘just the way things are’. ‘Settling for status quo’ means accepting things as they are, and not questioning or making an effort to change anything.
What does that have to do with my wedding?
It might just be because we’ve been to so many weddings over the years, but it certainly seems like certain things have become ‘traditions’ or ‘must-haves’ at weddings, even though most people really couldn’t tell you why they’re so important.
From details like the color of the wedding dress to the ‘proper’ toasts to give, so many decisions in planning a wedding are left to ‘status quo’. Truly, the only thing that you really have to do at your wedding is… get married! Aside from a few specific words during the ceremony and signing the marriage certificate, the rest is really up to you!
People are not made by cookie cutters, and a wedding is a celebration of two unique people joining their lives together. It’s an awesome thing, definitely worth celebrating, and celebrating in a way that is true to you!
When it comes to wedding music, people often ask ‘well, what’s popular?’ when it comes to songs for special moments. If you don’t have anything specific in mind, you can definitely just ask us to play ‘what’s popular’, but we’d much rather get an idea of what fits your personality and style. What’s popular might be good, but we want your music to be great and we want it to suit you perfectly. That’s one reason we prefer to meet with you in person – we can ask some questions and get a good idea of who you are and what you like. For example, a very popular song for the bouquet toss over the past few years has of course, been “Single Ladies” by Beyonce. It’s a fun song, and it’s definitely perfect for the bouquet toss. However, if you don’t really care for pop music, and neither do most of your friends and family, it’ll probably feel a little out-of-place at your wedding. We would love to make a few suggestions for something that is more ‘you’ – how about ‘You Can’t Hurry Love’ by The Supremes for those of you that love Oldies and Motown (or the Dixie Chicks version of the same song for you country music lovers)? Just ask – we’d love to get to know you and handpick songs that are perfect for you!
