4 Ways To Make Your Wedding Environmentally-Friendly
It’s no secret that planning a wedding can be a great expense, but few people consider the impact of their wedding on the environment – and often weddings come at a cost to Mother Nature, too. We love the environment, and love it when couples make small decisions (or big ones!) when planning their wedding day that make the environmental impact as small as possible.
Planning a sustainable wedding can be easier than you think. Today we’re sharing six ways that you can make your wedding more environmentally-friendly, so we can keep Knoxville – and our planet – beautiful!
1 – Serve Local Food
One of the biggest expenses at any wedding is the menu, and it can also be one of the biggest ways that you can lessen your wedding’s impact on the environment. Choose a caterer who uses only local ingredients, especially when it comes to meat. The less resources and fuel used to transport your wedding meal, the better! Plus, it keeps the money you’re spending on your wedding in the local economy – and we’re all for supporting local business!
2 – Use Up-cycled Decor
There’s no need to head to a big-box store or spend big bucks on brand-new wedding decor when there are a ton of places you can get pre-loved wedding decor! Look on Craigslist, local Facebook groups, or consignment stores to find nearly-new wedding decor. Another great option is to ask your friends and family members if they have anything that fits your vision – you never know what grandma might have sitting in her fabric cupboard!
3 – Create Handmade Details
If in doubt, DIY! With the help of Pinterest, and a handful of crafty friends, you can use what you’ve got on hand to make some pretty amazing details – again, without turning to the big-box retailers.
4 – Something Borrowed…
Rather than purchasing brand-new items, ask around to see what you can borrow from friends and family. Who says that every centerpiece has to be the same? In fact, mismatched centerpieces and decor items are quite popular. Borrow vases, picture frames, table linens, and more from your loved ones, and return them after the big day – it’s much easier than trying to figure out what to do with 25 identical vases after your wedding, anyways!
Stay tuned for part two and three – we’ve got plenty more ideas to help you make your wedding more environmentally friendly!
